PRESS RELEASE: £26m granted to climate tech innovators to accelerate action on energy access crisis in Africa and Asia

A total of £26m of UK government grant funding has been awarded to climate tech innovators, as part of an announcement made today at COP27. This latest round of projects is part of Innovate UK’s Energy Catalyst program in support of its continued efforts to create and demonstrate new technologies and business models to deliver a just and inclusive clean energy transition in Africa and Asia. Launching early next year our project will focus on Uganda & Rwanda using Vittoria Technology’s innovative, digital battery leasing platform and Aceleron’s 2nd life batteries to scale several MeshPower mini-grids in the region. Vittoria Technology’s co-founder & CEO Nathan Sermonis joined the Sankalp Forum to discuss advanced batteries’ role in clean energy access for productive use. The session brought together entrepreneurs funded through Innovate UK’s Energy Catalyst programme developing productive use of energy solutions for rural communities.
